The Man With Nine Lives

Ladies and gentlemen, your guest star... Fred Astaire! That's right, Fred Astaire. What's he doing on this show?

I like the recruitment ad on the shuttle, and that it becomes a plot point later. I'm curious what these shuttles are, as they have made them more like an airline in this episode when they never were before.

In "War of the Gods" we were shown some silly dancing with ropes that looked like a bad pilates class. In this episode we see people dancing a kind of spider on a mirror thing. It is perhaps the silliest dance to appear on television since A Charlie Brown Christmas

Who are these Borellian nomen? They claim to be human, though I think that's at least somewhat debatable. They are part of the fleet, so they must have come from one of the colonies, but which one? "Borellian" doesn't give us any clue, as it's not a zodiacal sign.

Part of me wishes the whole backstory about Starbuck being orphaned had been introduced in an earlier episode, so that when he thinks he's finally found him we might have a sense of his loss first. Like Mulder's sister. Because we knew she was missing for so long, it made a big impression when someone showed up claiming to be her. Here we have nothing to do but suspect Chameleon (REALLY lame name by the way, especially pronouncing it with a soft "ch" like we won't figure it out) since he finds out Starbuck's story the same time we do.

And then we get the ultimate bait and switch... Fred Astaire really IS Starbuck's father. I'll give them points for originality on that one. And the fact that he keeps that quiet so that Starbuck won't give up his job is a decent touch.

Not the worst episode, but a strange casting of Astaire. I'm still left wondering who these nomen are by the end; I'd really like to know where they come from.
